Obituary – Mrs Ann Dalton
The number of New Zealand’s pioneers who have passed away was increased by the death on Monday of Mrs Ann Dalton, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs W. Brown, of Hornby, at the age of 91 years. Mrs Dalton, who was the widow of the late Mr George Dalton, came to New Zealand with her family in the ship Sir George Seymour, in 1850.
Mr Dalton was for some time in the employ of the late Mr John Deans, after which he took up farming in the Springston district. On returning from agricultural activity, Mr and Mrs Dalton took up their residence in St. Asaph Street, Christchurch, but after the death of Mr Dalton in 1880 his widow went to live with her daughters, Mrs J. T. Wright, of Dunsandel, and Mrs Brown. Mrs Dalton proved herself a true type of the best of our early settlers, so ever ready to sacrifice herself in assistance to others, and often spent herself in good offices.
She leaves a family of two daughters and one son. The funeral will take place to-morrow at the Riccarton Churchyard.
